Pomaika'i Gaui Workshops

Halau Na 'Olapa Mamao E Malama Hula was happy to present a weekend of hula workshops with noted Kumu Hula Pomaika'i Gaui of Salt Lake City, Utah in November of 2010.




Kumu Hula Pomaika'i Gaui resides in West Valley City, UT, along with his wife, Kehaulani, and his children and grandchildren.

Hula is a big part of Kumu Pomaika'i's life, and he enjoys sharing his knowledge and aloha with all that come through the halau and community workshops. Halau Keahiokamalulani was established in Waimanalo, O'ahu, in 1988 and has been in Utah for the last 14 years.

Kumu Pomaika'i is the former alaka'i/kokua kumu to the Gentlemen of Maluikeao, under the direction of the late Kumu Hula Frank Palani Kahala.

Kumu Pomaika'i is very active in the Hawaiian community in Utah, holding various positions, such as: Board Member, PIAC - Pacific Islander Advisory Council, for then Governor John Huntsman, Jr.; Past President/BOD, Hui Hawai'i o Utah Hawaiian Civic Club, and Board Member, So. Salt Lake Community Council (arts).

Kumu Pomaika'i has recently opened classes for the gracious student. Classes are in hula 'auana (modern) only.

The workshops took place at the beautiful Vista Village Clubhouse in East Boulder on Saturday, November 13, 2010 (Hula 'Auana) and Sunday, November 14 (Hula Kahiko).
